VIDEO: Deputies Save Residents From Second Alarm Fire In Littleton
LITTLETON, Colo. (CBS4) - Dramatic body camera video from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office shows moments before deputies saved a family from a second alarm apartment fire early Saturday morning. Deputy Quoc Tran is one of the first people on the scene.
The deputies are seen running toward the Greystoke Apartments engulfed in flames. Tran rushed over to a father and son he heard yelling for help.
"You guys want to jump?" he asked.
One person jumped to deputies from their second floor window. Later, deputies used a ladder to help others down from their homes.
Tran climbed as the heat intensified and smoke poured out. He can be heard coughing.
"I stood on the second floor window and held onto the frame and then then dad passed the son down to me."
Tran says adrenaline may have helped him cope with smoke inhalation. He and a firefighter were later taken to the hospital.
"You can put your legs on my leg! Put your legs on my legs!" Tran told a resident climbing out of their window.
"I got to give you my weight!" the resident responded.
The fire destroyed at least six units, forcing those residents to find another place to stay days before Christmas. Vehicles nearby were also burned.
"We don't get much training dealing with fire, I just got on the scene first and the first thing I thought of was just make sure everyone was out of the building," Tran said.
He and a firefighter were later taken to the hospital. Everyone is expected to be okay.
Tran says he thinks about the father and son he helped save.
"Hopefully things will get better, think about the positive that they're okay, and that's all that matters."
Tran says he hopes to meet them again to let them know people care.
Investigators arrested Alex Duran hours after the fire. He faces arson and attempted murder charges.
A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to help those Greystoke residents displaced after the fire.
