Denver Commuters Trade In Car Keys For Pedals
DENVER (CBS4)- Hundreds of drivers in the Denver metro area turned in their car keys for bike pedals for the annual Bike to Work day.
Cyclists rolled into Civic Center Park early Wednesday morning where they were treated to a free breakfast.
The event is designed to promote cycling as a way of commuting to protect the environment, reduce traffic, stay healthy and have fun.
Denver Mayor Michael Hancock even donned his bike helmet and hit the streets.
"It's a way to encourage people to be healthy and take care of themselves. But it also encourages a new culture that we have in Denver which is a more multi-motor culture and that is get people out on the road, out on their bikes, sharing the road with motorists and following the rules of the road. So this is a great day in Denver," said Hancock.
Another perk for Bike to Work day, Denver B-Cycles are free at all 82 stations across the city.
