Colorado Shoppers File Lawsuit Against Target Stores

GLENDALE, Colo. (CBS4) – Target is facing multiple lawsuits after a security breach exposed many shoppers' credit card information.

One of the lawsuits the store is facing is on behalf of shoppers here in Colorado.

Recently a massive security breach put the credit card information of millions of customers at risk.

Target revealed that information connected to 40 million credit and debit card accounts was stolen in the weeks leading up to the holiday season.

This is the second largest incident of its kind in United States history.

"It's definitely scary. Every time you shop at a place like this you kind of trust them," said a shopper

The Colorado class action complaint is one of at least 15 suits filed against Target nationwide.

Like the others it is seeking millions of dollars in damages for putting shoppers at risk.

The retail giant has seen a drop in foot traffic and an increase in lawsuits in the aftermath of the security breach.

The class action complaint filed on behalf of Target customers in Colorado claims the retailer violated the state's Consumer Protection Act.

"It's not the first time it's happened and it's not the last time it's going to happen to a big corporation like that," said shopper Joey Sanders.

It also says Target was negligent and failed to implement adequate security measures which resulted in a data breach.

"I don't use credit cards for that reason," said one shopper.

However not all Colorado shoppers are deterred from shopping at the store.

"It's almost impossible to not shop at a Target or a Walmart or some store like that," said Sanders, "It becomes more of an inconvenience for you to look for other outlets. Obviously I support small businesses but it's difficult for certain items when prices are so much better. Especially during this time of the year when everyone is spending tons of money."

Target says that there is no evidence that any customers' pin numbers have been compromised.
