Brandon Marshall Stands For National Anthem In Oakland
OAKLAND, Calif. (CBS4) - Broncos linebacker Brandon Marshall has knelt during the national anthem before every game he's played in this season.
Marshall said he says he did so to protest social injustice in America.
Ahead of Sunday night's game in Oakland, though, Marshall said he'd stand during the anthem for the rest of the season.
"Not because everything is perfect, or because I'm changing my stance on things," Marhsall posted to Instagram. "But because of my hope for what we can become."
"There's much work to be done," Marshall said in his post. "I'll continue to recognize organizations that are stepping up as leaders and making a real difference in our community, and I will do my part to be there for those in need."
He was criticized for taking a knee, some feeling the national anthem ore a football game was not the right time or place.
Marshall argued otherwise, though.
"I feel like this is the right platform. This is our only platform to really be heard. And I feel a lot of times people want us to just shut up and entertain them, shut up and play football. But we have voices as well," Marshall said previously. "We're actually educated individuals that went to college. So when we have an opinion and we speak it, I feel a lot of people bash us for what we have to say."
As a result of the protest, some sponsors dropped Marshall.

In his Instagram post, Marshall thanked those who stood by him.
"I really appreciate the support of my family, teammates, coaches and fans. I'm grateful for those who have taken the time to hear me out. I'm excited for what all of us can accomplish when we truly work together."
