Fence Jumper Arrested At Denver International Airport

DENVER (CBS4) - A runway was closed for a short time Friday morning at Denver International Airport after someone reportedly climbed over a fence on the airport's south perimeter.

Authorities captured that person shortly after the incident and they were taken into custody. The incident took place near the row of rental car businesses, about two miles from the main terminal.

Jason Smoker was inside the Dollar Rental lot and saw what happened.

After the suspect tried to steal a car, Smoker says there was an altercation with security people, "Then he (suspect) went running across 78th and decided to jump the fence into the airport."

According to multiple rental car employees, the suspect tried to steal a car from one of the businesses first. He was apparently unsuccessful and then ran toward the airport fence and jumped over it.

The identity of the person who was arrested hasn't been released.

Two planes that were set to take off on the runway that was closed were sent to other runways for their takeoffs and were delayed by about 15 minutes, according of airport officials.

Denver police and the FBI are investigating the incident.
