Meantime, Toni Preckwinkle received the endorsement of a host of west siders, including Illinois U.S. Congressman Danny Davis.
If victorious, Lightfoot is set to make history not only as Chicago's first black female mayor, but Chicago's first openly gay mayor as well.
Past speakers at the Christian liberal arts and sciences university's forum include former President George W. Bush, former Soviet Union President Mikhail Gorbachev and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.
The development comes as preliminary evidence shows striking similarities between two deadly crashes involving 737 Max aircraft in the past six months.
Early voting begins Monday in all 50 wards, as voters cast ballots in the races for mayor, city treasurer, and 15 aldermanic races.
Lightfoot has raised $676,000. By contrast, Preckwinkle has raised $329,000 with labor unions the biggest contributors at $135,000.
Both candidates said poor communities need more investment, jobs, and mental health facilities.
More than 30 Illinois communities have already enacted Tobacco 21 ordinances, including Arlington Heights, Lake Zurich and Park Ridge.
Four years ago, the plumbers endorsed Rahm Emanuel. In the election's first round, the union backed Bill Daley, citing a 60-year relationship with the Daley family. But Coyne said Lightfoot's emphasis on jobs won him over.
Pritzker says Illinois' current tax system is unfair to the middle class. Republicans and some business leaders don't support the proposal.
Her endorsement by Kelly Cassidy was a rallying cry for LGBTQ voters to flock to the polls for Lightfoot. The unknown question: How many conservative voters may be motivated to vote against Lightfoot, for the same reason.
The decision means the world of Democratic politics will head to Wisconsin, a state the party failed to win during the 2016 election, to pick their 2020 nominee.
Lori Lightfoot gladly accepted the backing of former candidate Willie Wilson, who won 14 of Chicago's black wards, in the election's first round. But Toni Preckwinkle's campaign charged that Wilson sought to name key commissioners and asked Preckwinkle to pay his campaign costs in exchange for Wilson's support.
