Your Chicago: Chicago Water Taxi
(CBS) -- Talk about a great way to commute to work.
Three hundred thousand people a year take a Chicago Water Taxi on the Chicago River. And for many it is part of their everyday commute.
CBS 2's Kate Sullivan reports.
The next time you are stuck in traffic or walking to work in the Loop, think about these guys.
The Chicago Water Taxi shuttles commuters every day -- many who live in the suburbs and take the train in to work in the city.
The taxi has five stops. The main hub is the Ogilvie-Union dock on Madison, where train commuters board for an eight-minute ride to LaSalle and Clark, or the 12-minute trip to the Magnificent Mile. It goes north to North Avenue and south to Chinatown.
The busiest times for commuters are from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
"It is the best way to see the city, and it is the best quality of commute, whether you are going to work or just going around the city," Andrew Sargis says.
He says ridership keeps growing with 350,000 people expected to take the taxi this year. Many are tourists, but 30 percent are commuters.
"I didn't even know about it until the beginning of the summer. Someone introduced me to it," commuter Cameron Brenson says. "It's really been nice."
A 10-ride pass $17.50.
Riders can also get a monthly pass for $60 or pay $3 for single-ride tickets.
