With Forte Out, Fox Anxious To See Other Bears RBs Step Up

(CBS) Bears starting running back Matt Forte will miss his first game since 2012 when he sits out Monday night's game against the Chargers, but Chicago coach John Fox sounded confident in the ability of the team's other backs to carry the load in San Diego.

Rookie Jeremy Langford is expected to get the start, but fellow backups Ka'Deem Carey and Antone Smith likely also will get opportunities to show what they can do, and Fox said he's anxious to see all three play.

"The last time I saw Ka'Deem play, he was in beast mode against the Cleveland Browns in the preseason," Fox told WBBM Newsradio's Jeff Joniak.

The Bears defense will face a stiff challenge from Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers, who entered Week 9 as the league's leading passer, with 2,753 yards.

"He's got great command of the offense," Fox said. "He's a super competitive individual. You don't do the things he's done in his career, and in particular this year. I mean, they lead the league in pass offense, as well as yards offensively."
