White Sox Draft Ball State OF Alex Call In 3rd Round

(CBS) With their third-round pick at No. 86 overall in the MLB amateur draft, the White Sox on Friday selected Ball State outfielder Alex Call.

Turning pro after his junior season, the 21-year-old Call hit .358 with 13 homers, 44 RBIs and a 1.110 OPS in 58 games in 2016. Call is a native of River Falls, Wisconsin.

In the fourth round, Chicago selected Southeastern Louisiana outfielder Jameson Fisher, 22, with the No. 116 pick. He hit .424 with 11 homers and 66 RBIs in 61 games this season.

The White Sox took Fresno State right-hander Jimmy Lambert in the fifth round. The 21-year-old Lambert was 10-2 with a 3.13 ERA as a junior, with 78 strikeouts in 97 2/3 innings.

In the sixth round, Chicago selected 17-year-old shortstop Luis Curbelo from Cocoa High School in Florida, then followed in the seventh round by taking left-handed pitcher Bernando Flores out of USC.

On Thursday in the first round, the White Sox took Miami catcher Zack Collins at No. 10 and Louisville right-hander Zack Burdi at No. 26. With No. 49 overall in the second round, the White Sox took right-hander Alec Hansen of Oklahoma.
