Wennington: Hamilton 'As Good A Fit As Anyone'
(CBS) Former Pistons guard Richard Hamilton is now a Bull and will play his first game with the team Tuesday night in a preseason tilt against the Pacers.
Hamilton made a lot of sense for the Bulls, which radio analyst Bill Wennington detailed on The McNeil and Show on 670 The Score Tuesday.
"I feel real good about it," Wennington said. "With the salary cap issues the Bulls had and the players who were out there, I think Rip Hamilton will be as good a fit as anyone. People will argue that he's not the pure shooter you want at the two-guard position, but he is a scorer. He knows how to play. He's been on a championship team in Detroit before."

The mindset behind the acquisition is that Hamilton will take a lot of pressure off of Derrick Rose and open up scoring opportunities for the other Bulls on the floor.
"Even if he plays like he did last year and averages 14 points per game and 22 minutes, he's going to help this team a lot," Wennington said. "He adds another threat that defenders have to guard. It's going to take pressure off Derrick Rose, it'll open up things a little bit for Carlos Boozer down low, and it will help Kyle Korver, the team's best shooter on the other side, pulling pressure off him so you can't team up on Kyle Korver when he's on the floor. So it will make him a better shooter as well."
Still, some are worried about Hamilton's age and wonder how effective the guard will be.
"You wonder about his years and how much he has left in the tank. That is a true concern that you have," Wennington said. "But you also look at the fact that most players coming to the twilight of their careers kinda want to go out with a little bit of a bang. And I think he has a good opportunity to do that. I think mentally he's hoping that if he can get a championship here in Chicago and be part of a winning organization here, he can kind of going out and end his career on a good note and be happy about it."
