Water Main Breaks Near Union Station; Not Fixed Until After Morning Rush

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A water main break near Union Station shut down lanes on some streets, and could not be fixed until after the morning rush.
As CBS 2's Susanna Song reports, streets near the train depot were down to one lane Wednesday morning.
Commuters who take the train to Union Station or drive in the area just west of the Loop were advised to give themselves extra time, since the city said in the early morning hours that crews would not fix the water main break until after the morning rush hour.
Two busy streets around union station were narrowed to one lane – Jackson Boulevard between Clinton and Canal streets, and Clinton Street between Adams Street and Jackson Boulevard.
The 13-inch diameter water main broke on Tuesday night.
An Amtrak parking garage nearby had minor flooding. In some areas, the water came up to the bottom of cars.
The standing water also caused the pavement to buckle.
The Chicago Department of Water Management said crews would be out around 9 a.m. Wednesday to repair the water main break.
