Two Wins From The Stanley Cup Finals
The ultimate road warriors are now just two wins away from making the Stanley Cup Finals. With last night's 4-2 victory over the Sharks here in San Jose, the Hawks have a commanding two games to none lead in the series and could finish off the Sharks by Sunday.
If you're counting at home and who isn't, that's seven straight road wins for the Hawks in this post season. It establishes a new franchise mark and ties an NHL record. Speaking of records, Jonathan Towes tied a Hawks record by notching a point in his 11th straight playoff game and now has 24 points over those 11 games. Towes, Troy Brouwer, Dustin Byfuglien and Andrew Ladd scored for the Hawks and Antii Niemi again vastly outplayed his counterpart, Evgeni Nabokov in goal. Niemi has now seen 72 shots in the first two games and has stopped 69 of them. Two of the three goals against him have come on the power play.
One guy who wasn't in the goal scoring column but who definitely played huge was Dave Bolland who so frustrated the Sharks with his defense and agitating style that they came after him towards the end of the game. Bolland kidded that maybe they don't like his face or his playoff beard but whatever it is he should keep it going.
