Two Chicago Men Held Without Bond In Shooting That Left Victim Paralyzed

(CBS) -- Bail has been denied to two Southwest Side men who are charged in connection with a drive-by shooting Tuesday that left a man paralyzed.

Assistant Cook County State's Attorney Jason Coehlo said that the flash of gunfire from an AK-47 assault rifle left a 23-year-old victim wounded in the back on the 1500 block of South Christiana Avenue. Doctors said the man was paralyzed from the injury.

Coehlo said that 27-year-old convicted felon Jamiel Hill allegedly leaned from a silver Mazda driven by 35-year-old Terrence Boyd and fired the assault weapon on the victim as he walked down the street. The gunfire scattered others on the street, but no one else was hit.

Two Chicago Police gang enforcement unit officers saw the attack from their squad car and gave chase. When they curbed the car at 16th Street and South St. Louis Avenue, it turned into a foot chase.

Police were able to corner Boyd and Hill in the back yard of the home at 1620 S. St. Louis Ave.

Police recovered the assault weapon, which was left in the back seat of the car. Hill and Boyd each face charges of aggravated battery with a firearm and unlawful use of a weapon by a felon.
