Traffic Stop Yields $500K Worth Of Drugs, Methamphetamine
(STMW) -- A south suburban man is being held on a $1 million bond after police conducting a traffic stop in west suburban Bloomingdale turned up nearly half a million dollars' worth of cocaine and methamphetamine Wednesday.
Jesus Gonzalez-Carrera, 26, of the 1300 block of Burnham Avenue in Calumet City, was charged with one count each of manufacturing or delivering more than 900 grams of a controlled substance, and possession or delivery of methamphetamine, according to the DuPage County Sheriff's office. Both charges are Class X felonies.
Gonzalez-Carrera is being held at the DuPage County Jail on $1 million, according to a release from the sheriff's office.
A sheriff's deputy stopped the vehicle about 3:40 p.m. Wednesday on Army Trail Road at Springfield Drive in Bloomingdale, and discovered Gonzalez-Carrera did not have a valid driver's license, the sheriff's office said.
The deputy took him into custody and a search of the vehicle turned up four kilograms of cocaine and about half a kilogram of methamphetamine, the sheriff's office said. The drugs had an estimated street value of nearly $500,000.
DuPage County State's Atty. Robert Berlin lauded police in a statement, saying, "Because of their efforts, a routine traffic stop resulted in the confiscation of nearly half a million dollars' worth of drugs bound for the streets."
