Third Body Recovered After Cal-Sag Boating Accident
WORTH TOWNSHIP, Ill. (CBS) -- Search crews have found the body of the third boater who went into the Cal-Sag channel last week, after their vessel collided with a barge on Friday.
Illinois Department of Natural Resources spokesman Chris Young confirmed the man's body was found Monday morning. The man has been identified as Bob Bielarz, 39.
Around 11:00 p.m. on Friday, a 19-foot Rinker pleasure craft hit a towing vessel hauling six barges on the Cal-Sag Channel near Southwest Highway in Worth Township. The smaller boat capsized, and at least three people went into the water.
Police said the boaters had been at an area restaurant before the collision.
The company that owns the vessel towing the barge, ARTCO, released a statements saying, "The captain immediately notified the U.S. Coast Guard and sounded a general alarm to gather all crew on deck to look for survivors."
The bodies of Viengsavanh Bielarz, 40, and Jeremy Muzika, 33, were recovered from the channel on Saturday.
Autopsies over the weekend determined they died of drowning and multiple injuries after the collision. Their deaths were ruled accidental.
