The Bar Is Open, But It's Not An Open Bar

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Whether supporters want to celebrate or drown their sorrows, it typically costs a good chunk of change.

The bar was already open before 6 p.m. at the election night party for Cook County State's Attorney Anita Alvarez.

But it wasn't an open bar at the Palmer House.

Wine: $11

Cocktails: $10

Beer: $6/$7

At the Kim Foxx bash, supporters paying a premium for beer and a high price for soda. She's trying to upend Alvarez at the polls, too.

Sen. Mark Kirk bucked the trend, offering up free Buds and Miller Lite, along with red and white wine at his party.

Ken Dunkin spent a relative fortune on his state House race. The drinks prices were competitive.

In 2014, Pat Quinn actually did have an open bar. His opponent, Gov. Bruce Rauner, did not.
