15-year-old shot, critically injured in Bronzeville
A teen was shot and critically injured in Chicago's Bronzeville neighborhood early Thursday morning.
Chicago police said the 15-year-old boy was shot in the face and was found on the ground in the 4800 block of South Calumet Avenue around 3:20 a.m., about a block from the 47th Street station on the CTA Green Line. There were at least 60 evidence markers on the street and sidewalk.
Police said the teen was taken to the University of Chicago's Comer Children's Hospital in critical condition.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting are unknown at this time.
Otta Glasper said she heard the gunfire while she was still in bed.
"A lot of shooting. No noise, just shooting. Just a whole lot of shooting," she said. "I got out of my bed, got on the floor."
Gwendolyn Davis-Dawson was one of many vehicle owners who woke up to find their cars sprayed with bullets after the shooting. At least five vehicles damaged by bullets were spotted at the scene.
Davis-Dawson said she heard the gunfire early Thursday, went back to bed, stepped outside, and saw several officers.
"Our car, the sunroof was all shattered," she said. "I just got my car back. It was in an accident in January, didn't get it back until March. So now we have to go through this all over again."
No one was in custody Thursday afternoon. Wentworth Area detectives were investigating.
