Sox are Back (except not really)

By all means, we should revel in the Sox' pillaging of the National League.  Eleven wins in 13 games, six in a row, starting pitchers dominating, lockdown relief and timely hitting (no homers in eight games [?!]) have the .500 mark looking like the the foundation of a real run.

The buzzkill comes, however, when one sees the eventual return to games against decent teams, the defecit still to be overcome, the unliklihood of wins at this rate, the fact that the Twins are still a better team, and the fact that the only available avenue to a title is the division championship.  But, whatever.

Meanwhile, to the north, Lou is shrugging exasperatedly as only he can.  His team is unable to sustain any quality of anything, because it is not very good.

NBC got the benefit of Tiger on the fringe of the US Open chase yesterday, as we still are waiting for somebody to make a damn putt of any import on the back nine.  The annual debate ignites over the "fairness" of the course, but the USGA appears to be the victor -- even par is supposed to win this tournament, and it amazes me how officials manage things to that exact end.

Free agent forward Chris Bosh says "I'm not an addition.  I'm a centerpiece."  Also, Chris Bosh is wrong.

NBA Draft Thursday, insanity to follow in nine days.  The Bulls roll out Tom Thibodeau Wednesday.

Today's show is the last from NBC Tower, before we broadcast Tuesday from our custom-constructed palace at Prudential.  There is little of the cocoon-emergent wistfulness that accompanied the graduation from the Belmont bunker of 820 and 1160 days -- onward and upward, literally.
