2 killed, including suspect, another hurt in Northwest Indiana strip mall shooting

The Lake County Sheriff's Department released details about a deadly shooting that happened Saturday night at a strip mall in Northwest Indiana.

They said Lake County police officers and Indiana State Police responded to the Karmic Sunshine shop shortly after 7 p.m. on the 2900 block of 181st Avenue in unincorporated Lowell, near I-65.

Preliminary investigation indicated that a 62-year-old man allegedly shot and killed a woman, whose age was not released, inside the shop.

The department said they believed the man died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Authorities had not released the identities of the man and woman as of Sunday afternoon.

A second woman, 24, was also shot while attempting to escape. She was taken to the hospital in unknown condition, but the department says her condition was stabilized.

According to the department, a young child and another man were inside during the incident and were not hurt.

There is no active threat to the public.

The investigation into the shooting remains ongoing by the Lake County Sheriff's Department.
