(CBS) – An East Chicago, Ind. school employee is in big trouble after making racially statements on tape.

The phone call originated from Central High School and started off innocently enough.

"Hello, this is Mrs. Sims at Central. Please give me a call," the caller says.

But it turns ugly when the school employee apparently forgot to hang up. The employee goes off on a tirade, apparently against a student she is with.

The caller is Georgia Sims, supervisor of detention at Central High. She's placed the call to the cell phone of Twyla Phillips, mother of one of the boys in detention.

Phillips tells CBS 2's Dorothy Tucker the recording got worse.

"I was hurt. You're a teacher. You can't talk to a child that way. You could have handled it a better way," Phillips says.

Superintendent Youseff Yomtoob says the district put the employee on administrative leave as soon as they heard the recording.

Sims offered a statement to CBS 2, saying, in part, "I am deeply saddened by the way people have been hurt by my negligence in my choice of words. I am hopeful that all involved will forgive me."

The school employee is on administrative leave with pay. The mother of the student says Sims should fired. School officials will only promise a full investigation.
