Romeoville, Illinois, launches youth, senior advisory councils

Leaders in the southwest Chicago suburb of Romeoville want to hear from young people and seniors.

The village has created two councils, the Young Leaders Advisory Council and the Senior Advisory Council, who will report back to the village on a variety of topics.

The Young Leaders Advisory Council is set up to provide the village manager with input on youth-related matters. It will be composed of seven members between the ages of 15 and 21, appointed by the mayor for one-year terms with the consent of Romeoville village trustees.

The Senior Advisory Council is set up to recognize the contributions, perspectives, and needs of residents age 62 and up. The council will review and make recommendations to the village board on issues such as transportation and mobility, housing and aging in place, health, recreation, safety, social and digital inclusion, public safety, and access to information.

"We think this is a great way to hear from our residents directly on what is affecting them," Romeoville Mayor John Noak said in a news release issued Sunday. "Our team looks forward to collaborating with these new groups as we look to expand opportunities within our community."
