Ricketts: 'We Brought A Change In Attitude'

On the surface it may appear that not much has changed since the Ricketts family purchased the Chicago Cubs. Two of the team's main front office executives, Jim Hendry and Crain Kenny, are still in place.

"I would say that on the team side we've brought in a lot of people into the management, their names maybe don't get into the paper everyday," Cubs co-owner Todd Ricketts said on the Mully and Hanley Show. "But we've expanded a lot within the business and the baseball side. We've increased the number of scouts. We've brought in a couple other guys that we thought were important...Jim and Crain are still there and I think at this point we're all very comfortable and very happy with those guys, but what we've changed is the directive."

Under the old ownership of the Chicago Tribune, it seemed as if the only thing that mattered was making money and filing the seats at Wrigley Field, any team success was an added bonus.

"It's a different attitude than what they had under the Tribune, of sort of what are we doing to try and win?" Ricketts said of the franchise. "Or what are we doing to try and improve this team. And I think you can see that in a lot of the changes. It's going to be filling up here with our new spring training facility. It's going to be filling up in the Dominican, with our new academy down there. We're going to see it at Wrigley with renovation at some point. We brought a change in attitude and a change in direction."
