Protesters Continue Calls For Emanuel, Alvarez To Step Down
(CBS) -- Protesters will hit the pavement again Saturday calling for sweeping changes to City Hall and the Chicago Police Department.
At least two demonstrations are scheduled to take place Saturday. The first is slated to begin at noon at City Hall and the second is scheduled to take place at 2 p.m. at Federal Plaza.
This comes after protests Friday evening demanding the resignations of Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Cook County State's Attorney Anita Alvarez. Many marched up State Street near Washington. Some sat down on the street, blocking traffic.
This comes on the heels of last month's release of dash cam video showing 17-year-old Laquan McDonald fatally shot by a Chicago Police officer, prompting the resignation of Superintendent Garry McCarthy and a federal probe into the department.
Critics argue the prosecutors took too long to criminally charge the officer, Jason Van Dyke.
Organizers expect more than a thousand to show Saturday.
