Poll: Illinois Voters Want Reform In State Government

CARBONDALE, Ill. (CBS) -- Are Illinois voters ready for reform? A new poll suggests the answer is a resounding yes when it comes to state government.

As WBBM Newsradio Political Editor Craig Dellimore reports, the Paul Simon Public Policy Institute at Southern Illinois University is holding a daylong forum in Chicago on ethics reform, and director David Yepsen says a new survey says it couldn't come soon enough.

"Our poll shows voters in Illinois are overwhelmingly in favor of a wide variety of reforms," Yepsen said. "They want to see limits on campaign spending. They want to see term limits. They want to see legislative leaders limited. They want to see a new way to draw legislative district lines. Illinois voters are ready for reform."

Yepsen says voters are not laughing at the state's reputation, nor at the fact that two former governors are now in prison.
