Shots fired during fight on Lincoln Avenue in Chicago's Budlong Woods neighborhood

Shots were fired during a fight early Wednesday morning on busy Lincoln Avenue in Chicago's Budlong Woods neighborhood.

Police said at 4:40 a.m., a 50-year-old man got into a quarrel with four other men in the 5500 block of North Lincoln Avenue, and the other men ended up beating up the 50-year-old man.

The group of four were leaving the scene when the 50-year-old man got in his car and struck a 33-year-old man from the group with it, police said.

Two other men from the group took out guns and fired toward the 50-year-old man's car before fleeing, police said. No one was struck by the gunfire.

The 50-year-old man was taken into custody and was taken to Swedish Hospital with bruising throughout his body, police said. The 33-year-old man was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston in fair condition with an injury to his back and legs, police said.

Bullet holes were seen in the window of a 7-Eleven store at 5562 N. Lincoln Avenue, at the intersection with Rockwell Street and also right off Bryn Mawr Avenue.

Bullet holes were also seen in a car in the parking lot behind crime scene tape.

Several shell casings were also spotted across the street.

Traffic was shut down near Lincoln and Bryn Mawr avenues while police investigated.

The office of Ald. Andre Vasquez (40th) said there did not appear to be any threat to the community.

Charges were pending in the case late Wednesday afternoon. Belmont Area detectives were investigating.
