Police: 1 Killed, 5 Wounded In Shootings Since Friday Evening

(STMW) --A man was killed and at least five other people were wounded in shootings across the city since Friday evening, according to Chicago Police.

The fatal attack occurred late Friday in the University Village neighborhood on the Near West Side.

Two 21-year-old men were standing on a sidewalk in the 1200 block of West Grenshaw about 11:45 p.m. when someone in a dark-colored van fired shots, police said. One man was shot in the chest and abdomen, and the other in the arm.

Friends drove them to Stroger Hospital, where the man with the chest wound was pronounced dead, and the other's condition was stabilized, police said.

The Cook County medical examiner did not immediately confirm the fatality.

The most recent nonfatal shooting happened Saturday morning in the Heart of Chicago neighborhood.

A 16-year-old was shot in the leg at 10:45 a.m. in the 2100 block of West 19th Street, according to preliminary information from police. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition. A police source said the boy is a documented gang member.

About 8:40 p.m. Friday, a woman was shot in Englewood on the South Side. The 53-year-old woman was with a group of people on a porch in the 5700 block of South Morgan Street when someone opened fire from a gray vehicle heading northbound on Morgan, police said. She was shot once in the back and twice in the left arm and taken to Stroger, where her condition was stabilized.

Just before 7 p.m., a 29-year-old man was shot in the right leg while getting out of a vehicle in Pilsen's 1500 block of West 19th Street, according to police. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, and his condition was stabilized.

The weekend's first shooting was reported at 6:18 p.m. in West Englewood, where a 27-year-old woman was shot in the back while riding in a car in the 6800 block of South Ashland. Her condition was stabilized at Holy Cross Hospital, police said.
