Piglets rescued from roadway in Lee County, Illinois
Ten piglets were rescued from a roadway in rural Lee County, Illinois, after falling off a truck on Thursday morning.
Illinois State Police said troopers responded to an area on U.S. 30 near Illinois Route 251, around 40 miles south of Rockford, Illinois. State police said the piglets had fallen off the truck.
It appeared that the bolts of the trailer door came loose during the ride, sending the animals flying.
Good Samaritans and state troopers jumped into action to round up the runaways.
A man who lives along the highway said at first, the little ones struggled with the shock of it all.
"They got their senses back and then they calmed down. They grot up and they became adventuresome, and they were running around the lawn," said Douglas Fyke. "We decided to put them in [a flatbed] where we could keep an eye on them."
A drone was even used with an infrared camera to search nearby fields for any piglets still on the loose.
Most of the piglets were returned safely to their owner.
