Person Struck, Killed By Metra Train In Blue Island
BLUE ISLAND, Ill. (CBS) -- A person was struck and killed by a Metra train in south suburban Blue Island early Monday.
The pedestrian was struck near the overpass over Interstate 57, on the border between Calumet Park and Blue Island, CBS 2's Kris Habermehl reports.
Train No. 202 on the Metra Electric District Blue Island service line was stopped about 5:45 a.m., near 124th Street and Ashland Avenue, according to Metra spokesman Tom Miller. The train was on the move again about 6:35 a.m. following a 53-minute delay.
The Cook County Medical Examiner's office confirmed a person was killed near the 124th Street address, but did not release any information about the person's age or gender.
