CHICAGO (STMW) -- Two men who stole a vehicle in the Pilsen neighborhood Tuesday night tried to escape police capture by driving away, but crashed into a squad car and pole instead, injuring themselves and an officer.

The two stole the vehicle about 11:50 p.m. in the 700 block of West 21st Street, police said. They led officers on a brief chase after they realized they had been spotted.

The stolen vehicle then crashed into a squad car and pole, injuring the two suspects and an officer who was inside the police vehicle.

All three were taken to area hospitals with "non life-threatening injuries," police said.

Charges are pending against the two men and further details were not available.
