Obama Makes It Official: He'll Run For Second Term
CHICAGO (CBS) -- The 2012 presidential ticket is set, at least for the Democrats. As expected, President Barack Obama said he's ready to run again.
Obama on Monday confirmed what we've all suspected the moment he took office in 2009 -- that he will indeed pursue another term. An online video and email sent to supporters made it official, albeit in a low-key way.
Familiar faces from the Obama administration will play important roles in the Chicago-based campaign. They include political strategist David Axelrod, former spokesman Robert Gibbs, Jim Messina, Julianna Smoot and David Plouffe.
All of them, and former chief of staff and Chicago mayor-elect Rahm Emanuel, say they're ready to help.
"I will do whatever … to help the president get re-elected," Emanuel said Monday.
