Multiple rounds of severe weather set to hit Chicago area on Sunday

Sunday was set to be the first of three days during which a threat of severe weather loomed over Chicago.

The first round was set to hit in the midday hours, affecting areas to the north.

Severe storms in Wisconsin were individually moving east at 30 mph as of the 10 a.m. hour, with the entire line drifting southeastward. Satellite imagery near Rockford showed destabilization, so possible strong storms were possible in the short term for the northern parts of the Chicago area.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch was issued for Lake and McHenry counties in Illinois until 2 p.m.

A second round of severe weather is expected Sunday night, with flash flooding a big concern. Torrential downpours may train in place, making for devastating flooding.
