Mother Claims Elementary School Worker Beat Student

CHICAGO (STMW) - A mother is suing the Chicago Board of Education, claiming an employee at her son's public elementary school punched him in a 2010 confrontation while taking him to the principal's office.

Katisha Davis filed the suit Wednesday in Cook County Circuit Court on behalf of her young son, identified only as P.H., who attended George W. Tillman Elementary School at 223 N. Keeler Ave.

She claims a teacher sent her son to the principal's office on May 18, 2010, but that on his way there, another employee punched him and forced him into an assistant principal's office.

Her son was bruised and "severely injured" in the encounter. The suit claims the employee had a propensity for violence, but that the board of education kept employing him anyway.

The three-count suit, which also names the employee as a defendant, seeks at least $150,000 in damages.

A Chicago Public Schools spokesperson had no immediate information about either the incident or the lawsuit.
