Mortar Shell Found At American Legion
CHICAGO (WBBM) - Chicago Police Bomb and Arson Unit personnel were called Friday night to an American Legion post on the city's near northwest side, after personnel discovered what apparently was a live mortar shell.
The age of the shell was unclear.
Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Darryl Beaty said the Franklin Delano Roosevelt American Legion Post 923, at 1824 W. Cortland Av., was evacuated at about 8:15 p.m.
Beaty reported no other evacuations.
Chicago Fire Department Media Affairs Cmdr. Joe Roccasalva said fire department trucks and ambulances were sent to the scene as a precautionary measure.
There were no reports of injuries or explosions as of 9:15 p.m.
