CHICAGO (CBS) -- A man was found dead after police spent hours in a standoff with a robbery suspect Thursday afternoon in south suburban Markham.
Sources confirmed to CBS 2 News that a suspect in a robbery in southwest suburban Summit barricaded himself inside a home near 162nd and Ashland in Markham, prompting an hours-long standoff with police.
Around 1:20 p.m., witnesses heard a large boom. Neighbors said they heard at least two gunshots about 30 minutes before that noise, and said an ambulance left the scene.
Markham police said a man was later found dead in the house. It's unclear how the man died, or if it was the same man suspected in the Summit robbery.
The area around the home remained closed late Thursday afternoon as police continued to investigate.
