Man Wounded Friday In Gang-Related Shooting Dies

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man who was shot early Friday during a gang-related shooting in the Southwest Side Scottsdale neighborhood has died.

Andres Avitia, 20, died at Advocate Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn at 10:17 p.m. Friday from gunshot wounds he suffered less than a day before, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

Police say Avitia, of the 4100 block of West 77th Place, was riding in a vehicle in the 7700 block of South Pulaski Road when a gray sedan pulled alongside and opened fire at 1:35 a.m.

Avitia, who was shot in the head and left shoulder, was in critical condition when his friends brought him to the hospital, police said.

No one is custody for the gang-related shooting, police said. Area Central detectives are investigating.
