Man Dies After Diving In Canal On SW Side
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A man died after diving into the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal while running from a traffic stop late Friday night.
Around 11:30 p.m. Chicago Police say they pulled over a van over for going through a stop sign at 46th and Cicero.
Police say the three men inside got out and ran, one running down an embankment near 40th Street and eventually jumping into the water at the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal.
Dive teams responded to the scene and the man was pulled from the water and transported to a hospital where he later died.
Two other men were questioned and released by police.
The Cook County medical examiner has identified the man as Dimitriues Baldwin of Dolton.
