Man Charged With Murder For Fatal East Garfield Park Shooting In May

(STMW) -- A South Side man has been charged with murder in connection with the fatal shooting of a Maywood man earlier this year in the East Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side.

William Gardner, 31, of the 4700 block of South Vincennes, faces one count of first-degree murder, one count of attempted first-degree murder and three counts of aggravated assault of a peace officer with a weapon for the May 25 shooting, according to a statement from Chicago Police.

At 8:06 p.m., officers who were responding to a call of shots fired saw an armed male near West Maypole Avenue and North Homan Avenue, police said at the time. A foot chase ensued and shots were fired by officers, but no one was struck, police said.

Further investigation revealed two shooting victims in the 3300 block of West Maypole Avenue, police said.

Arron Feazell, 46, of the 1400 block of South 10th Street in Maywood, was found unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:25 p.m., according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

The second victim, a 17-year-old with gunshot wounds to both legs and his hand, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition, police said at the time.

Officers from the Fugitive Apprehension Unit apprehended Gardner in Madison, Wisconsin and subsequently identified him as the shooter, police said. He is scheduled to appear in bond court Saturday.
