Man Charged With Killing Woman In Lawndale
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man arrested in west suburban Bellwood a few hours after fatally shooting a woman in a domestic dispute in the Lawndale neighborhood Monday night has been charged with her murder, according to police.
About 5:20 p.m. Monday, officers found 30-year-old Georgina Randell on the street near her home in the 1600 block of South Drake Avenue. Randell, who suffered multiple gunshot wounds, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where she died minutes later.
Witnesses initially said the man suspected of shooting her in an argument had barricaded himself inside a home on that block, police said.
A SWAT team was called but the man was not in the building. He was apprehended about 10:40 p.m. by Bellwood police, News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli said.
Wynton Collins, 28, of the 1600 block of South Drake, was charged Wednesday with first-degree murder, police said.
An autopsy on Tuesday found that Randell died of multiple gunshot wounds and her death was ruled a homicide, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
Police would not say what Collins' relationship was to the slain woman, other than describing the situation as "domestic-related."
