Looking For Prom Date, Boy Takes To Reddit For Help

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Traditionally, boy meets girl, boy asks girl to prom, she says yes and they have either a miserable or magical evening.

At least that is how I imagine it happened. I never went to prom.

In 2014, there is a boy, he hasn't met a girl, he goes to Reddit to find a date.

A young man who goes by the user name of needsadate68 said in his Reddit post: "Hey guys, not the proudest moment of my life, but I need a date for my senior prom."

He says he is 17 and attends a private school in the Chicago area, adding that he has moved around a lot and doesn't know anybody that well.

Because I am a hopeless romantic, I am going to assume this is all legit. I reached out to needsadate68, but I haven't heard back, yet.

He has received some funny replies.

"I'll go. I'm 27, have IBS [irritable bowel syndrome], and I'll hook you up with a flask of bourbon. You buy dinner," wrote one guy, who added, "I feel like I need to PM [private message] your parents."

Others were more earnest, if not excitable.

"omg i would love to go to prom again! message me if you're still looking :)"

Another said he should go single and dance with other guy's dates.

A lot of people offered similar advice: Don't go. It won't matter in 10 years.

I would agree. In 10 years, it doesn't matter.

But, sometimes you have to live for the moment. When you are 17, prom can be a big deal.
