La Porte County Deputy Coroner Charged With Dealing Narcotics

(CBS) -- The La Porte County deputy coroner has been charged with dealing narcotics, according to a press release from the La Porte County sheriff's office.

Dawn Maxson, 47, was arrested Thursday afternoon after the sale of the narcotic, Hydromorphone, the sheriff's office said. Maxson has been charged with dealing a schedule I, II, or II controlled substance. She is being held in the La Porte County jail and held in lieu of a $20,000 bond.

"While I'm very disappointed to see a public official charged with dealing drugs, I'm proud of the efforts and determination put forth by our Metro Narcotics team," said La Porte County Sheriff John Boyd in a press release. "Even more frustrating is the fact that as a deputy coroner, Maxson has been witness to lives lost due to the ravages of drug addiction yet she has chosen to deal narcotics."

The La Porte County sheriff's office says additional charges are pending.
