Cubs Tab Jon Lester For Game 1, Jake Arrieta For Game 2

(CBS) One day ahead of the start of the World Series, the Cubs made the expected news official Monday afternoon.

Left-hander Jon Lester will start Game 1 on Tuesday against the Indians, while right-hander Jake Arrieta will go in Game 2 on Wednesday. Arrieta started the third game of each of the first two playoff series, but with right-hander Kyle Hendricks just throwing Saturday in the National League Championship Series clincher on Saturday, he'll go in Game 3 to get normal rest. Right-hander John Lackey is set to pitch Game 4.

Lester will make his start on normal four days rest. He's been spectacular in this postseason, going 2-0 with a 0.86 ERA in three starts. Lester was 19-5 with a 2.44 ERA in the regular season.

Arrieta will be pitching Game 2 on seven days rest. He's 0-1 with a 4.91 ERA in two postseason starts after going 18-8 with a 3.10 ERA in the regular season.

Lester will face Indians right-hander Corey Kluber in the opener. Arrieta is tentatively scheduled to be opposed by right-hander Trevor Bauer, assuming Bauer's injured finger isn't giving him any problems in the next couple days.
