Illinois Primary: Another Election Brings Us Drunk Election Judges

CHICAGO (CBS) -- To the best of our knowledge, there are no over-under bets in Las Vegas on the number of drunk election judges found during a Chicago election.

That said, it is a given that one of them, usually more, are up to some measure of misbehavior.

So that brings us to the roundup, brought to you by CBS 2 Brad Edwards.

According to Pam Zekman, while one judge was drunk, another was asleep and smelled of alcohol. Another judge was labeled "disruptive" for being "loud and exciteable" and a fourth sent home because he was a candidate for office – ward committeeman.

There was also a report of a judge caught napping and later singing "Amazing Grace," though that judge was apparently allowed to stay on the job.

The board also had to deal with problems and complaints on the issue of 17-year-old first-time voters. Under a new law, they can register to vote if they'll be 18 by the general elections. The city said their vendor used the wrong settings on electronic control booths, in effect blocking them from voting. The voters were given paper ballots and their votes will be counted.

City officials said anyone who still had trouble voting should call Election Central at 312-269-7870.
