Hendry: 'I Expected More Out Of Myself'
CHICAGO (CBS) With rumors swirling that his job may be in jeopardy, Cubs General Manager Jim Hendry discussed his frustrations with reporters Monday at Wrigley Field and said he understands the disappointment from fans.
''I've been here a long time, and I expected us to win at a higher level than three division championships. Even the first six years when it was going a lot better, I expected more out of myself then,'' Hendry said. ''This is professional baseball in a great city with a great fan base, so that's to be expected.''
Hendry also said the team has money to spend in 2012 despite reports that the Cubs' debt load will impact free agency.
As for Mike Quade, Hendry said his manager should not be taking the heat for the Cubs' failures.
"I don't know how Mike could've managed any differently," Hendry said, adding that injuries have been the biggest problem. "I certainly wouldn't dump any of that on Mike Quade. He's certainly going to do a fine job here."
