Illinois man charged with attempted murder, accused of sitting on woman's chest during domestic attack
A man from Geneva, Illinois, is facing attempted murder charges after a domestic dispute that left the mother of his child with multiple broken bones.
Justin Gallo, 42, has been charged with one count of attempted murder, two counts of aggravated domestic battery, one count of unlawful restraint, two counts of domestic battery, one count of interfering with the reporting of domestic violence, and one count of violating an order of protection.
Police said, around 12:30 a.m. on Thursday, officers responded to a domestic disturbance call at Gallo's home in the 300 block of Division Street, and found a woman who was having trouble walking on her own outside the home.
The woman told police that Gallo had thrown her on a bed several times, and held her down against her will by sitting on her chest and covering her mouth and nose until she passed out.
After she woke up, Gallo covered her mouth to stop her from screaming for help from a window, blocked her from leaving, and took her cell phone.
The victim eventually was able to get free, get her phone back, and call 911. She suffered multiple broken bones, bruises to her face, and a cut to her left arm. She was taken to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital for treatment.
Gallo later left the home to speak with police, and was treated for minor injuries at Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital in Wheaton.
He was arrested after he was released from the hospital, and Kane County prosecutors later authorized charges against him.
Police said Gallo and the victim have a child together, but did not elaborate further on their relationship to each other.
Details on Gallo's first court appearance and the order of protection Gallo had been facing were not immediately available.
