Geneva High School Bans 'Sexually Explicit' Dancing
GENEVA, Ill. (CBS/AP) -- A far west suburban high school has banned a sexually suggestive style of dancing known as grinding.
Some Geneva High School students, parents and employees had complained to the principal about students grinding at school dances. Grinding involves dance partners rubbing against each other in an explicit way.
"We have sensed an increasingly inappropriate style of dancing at our recent dances, and we were approached, in addition to our own observations, we were approached by a group of students who expressed to us they were extremely uncomfortable with the style of dancing that was becoming popular," Principal Tom Rogers told the Kane County Chronicle.
That led school officials to write a letter to parents announcing the ban of such "sexually explicit" dancing.
School officials also asked a disc jockey hired for a Friday night dance not to play songs with a pounding bass line that would encourage grinding.
Principal Tom Rogers says the ban has caused a stir among students and he's encouraged those who disagree with it to talk with him.
