Funeral Arrangements Made For State Trooper Killed In Tri-State Crash
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Visitation and funeral arrangements have been made for James Sauter, the State Trooper who died Thursday night when a semi slammed into his police car on the shoulder of I-294, reports WBBM's Mike Krauser.
Visitation for trooper Sauter will be on Monday starting at 3 p.m. at Moraine Valley Church , 6300 W. 127th Street, Palos Heights. The funeral service will be at the church on Tuesday at 11 a.m.
James Sauter was 28-years-old. Friends and fellow troopers say he loved putting on the uniform every day.
"He is exactly what you want a police officer and a trooper to be: kind, considerate, brave," said State Police Commander Joe Perez.
Sauter was killed Thursday night in a fiery crash on the Tri-State Tollway in north suburban Northbrook.

State Police Director Hiram Grau said the trooper's car was parked on the left shoulder of the tollway at the time of the crash. He said Trooper James Sauter had just been helping a motorist a short time earlier on Interstate 94, about five miles away, before returning to patrol duties on southbound I-294.
The cruiser and the cab of the truck were severely damaged and burst into flames as a result of the crash.
Sauter, of Vernon Hills, was pronounced dead at the scene about three hours later.
Sauter had been on the job since 2008. The crash that killed him remains under investigation.
