Fraudulent Fundraising Page Surfaces After Chicago Boy, 7, Fatally Shoots Himself

(CBS) – Chicago police say a 7-year-old Englewood boy who fatally shot himself by accident Sunday got the gun through an older brother who brought the weapon into their home.

But authorities are still trying to find out where the 10-year-old sibling acquired the weapon.

Devon Lofton, of the 6700 block of South Aberdeen, died Sunday afternoon after apparently shooting himself by accident. Children with him ran to a neighbor's house, where adults called paramedics.

Devon's family members held a vigil in his honor Monday evening. It was announced that a GoFundMe account seeking money from the public has surfaced online, but was not created or authorized by the family.
