Four Police Officers Injured In Far South Side Crash
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Four Chicago police officers were seriously injured Friday, when two police vehicles collided on the Far South Side.
Police said officers responding to a call of a person with a gun spotted an armed man at 118th and State streets, and began a foot chase.
Additional officers dispatched to help, and two police SUVs responding to the call collided at 115th and State streets.
The Fire Department said four officers were taken to hospitals. Two went to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, and two went to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
Police said the officers' injuries were serious, but not life-threatening.
The vehicles -- one marked SUV and one unmarked SUV -- sustained serious damage. The unmarked SUV smashed into a traffic light pole after hitting the other police vehicle.
The suspect the officers were chasing was taken into custody.
