Football player critically hurt during game at Antioch High School, officials say

A high school football player is hospitalized after being injured during a game Friday night at Antioch High School.

According to the Antioch Fire Department, a medic crew was called onto the field during the game between Antioch and Schaumburg high schools around 9 p.m. to treat an injured player.

Community High School District 117 Superintendent Jeff Feucht confirmed that the injured player was from the Schaumburg school.

The fire department said that due to the severity of the injuries, crews requested additional on-scene assets and ground transport.

The player was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville in critical condition and immediately taken for a CT scan.

The Illinois High School Association, which governs the state's sports, released a statement Monday, writing, "The IHSA is aware that the young man was hospitalized and our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family. Out of respect for everyone involved, we will refrain from further comment at this time."

Further information was not immediately released.
