September 4, 1994 - Chicago Stadium closes, UC opens

After 65 years of entertaining basketball, hockey and indoor soccer fans, the Chicago Stadium closed its doors for good.

Built in 1929, the arena became a staple of the city of Chicago. It was more than just the home of the Bulls and Blackhawks, as it hosted the first NFL playoff game in 1932, as well as numerous concerts, rodeo competitions, boxing matches, political rallies and plays.

It was also home to the 1932, 1940 and 1944 Democratic National Conventions, and the 1932 and 1944 Republican National Conventions.

The final event at Chicago Stadium was Scottie Pippen's Ameritech Classic charity basketball game

Nicknamed "The Madhouse on Madison," the Chicago Stadium saw the Bulls win the 1992 NBA Finals -- the only title the Bulls would clinch in the arena.

After the Blackhawks and Bulls moved to the United Center, the Chicago Stadium was demolished in 1995.

The Score will continue to release a new Flashback each weekday until they reach 100. Check back tomorrow for a new one, or check out all of the previous Flashbacks: 670 The Score's 20th Anniversary »
